Don’t just take our word for it…
Malcolm and his team at Aqua Plumb installed an Aqua A/C 200 Compact Unit on our boat in September 2019. I am very pleased with the unit both in terms of the quality of the install (Mike did a sensational job), it’s performance and value for money compared to international brands. Compared to buying foreign brands I really liked the idea of having easily accessible generic parts (filters etc) and having access to local expertise who really know the product, as they build and install them – and they use the products on their own boats.
The advantage of this was really bought home to me on our second time out after the install – we headed away for the Christmas break up to the Bay of Islands, no sooner had we arrived and I thought I’d flick on the watermaker and fill the water tank. The unit started and stopped within a minute of two – a wee sense of panic kicked in as we only had minimal water for the trip up the coast and there was 5 on the boat. I thought I’d try calling Malcolm or Mike for help but I didn’t hold out much hope of a response given that it was Saturday 28 December. My calls went to message but within 10 minutes Mike had called me back (he was out of his boat) – I just needed to turn the high pressure gauge down a fraction and problem solved. I doubt that if I’d bought a foreign brand watermaker I’d have received the same level of service support on a Saturday afternoon.
I have no hesitation in recommending Malcolm and his team at Aqua Plumb- they were a pleasure to deal with – and I’m proud to buy NZ made. Also I am happy for any prospective watermaker purchasers to call me and have a chat about the product and my experience.
P.S the new stainless steel frames Malcom’s had built recently for the compact units look stunning, I’m tempted to upgrade my original powdered coated frame.
We have been fortunate to have been working with Malcolm and his associates for the last 10 years on various boat and house projects. It is rare to find a tradesman that has such a depth of knowledge in all aspects of plumbing, watermakers, heating systems etc. that actually does what he says he will do.
At all times we have been impressed with his ability to plan and execute the chosen jobs and the systems Mal and his team have installed always work as or better than expected and have been very reliable in service. His accounts are well laid out and fair, considering the work done and the quality of components used. I can highly recommend Aquaplumb as a very valuable partner, whether you have a boat or a land based project.
Malcolm and the team at Aquaplumb have been involved in every aspect of our plumbing requirements at all our commercial workspaces, our home and our family motor vessels for more than 25 years. The advice, and execution of any work needed is always first class and I have no hesitation recommending others trust Aquaplumb for their needs as well.
We purchased a 200 lit per hour water maker from Aqua watermaker in 2017 and installed it immediately into our boat. It was the best thing we have done and wondered why we didn’t do it years ago. The install was easy, running it is easy( just a press of a button) and its auto flush – perfect for weekend users. I can’t recommend the water maker enough. A great product!
No more trying to find water facilities at Christmas cruising time, unlimited washing of dive gear, and we don’t need to worry about teenagers showering anymore.
Malcolm and his team were not your ‘run of the mill’ marine service business. They had a focus on finding ‘root cause’ for each of the issues we asked them to look at. A continually operating toilet was traced to a poorly installed O ring; an airconditioning system failure that required frequent repriming of the raw water circulating pump was traced to a faulty non return valve, not a faulty pump as others had suggested; a continuous recycling fresh water pump (recently replaced) was found to be faulty and a complementary problem was found to be imminent failure of one of the elements in the HW tank.
Having experienced the ‘she’ll be right’ culture that pervades most Australian and NZ waterfront trades these guys were a breath of fresh air-they turned up on time, came prepared, completed their tasks in a timely manner and cleaned up after themselves. More to the point they solved our problems.
We have been very impressed with the watermaker that Aqua plumb installed. The installation was undertaken very tidily and the installation was undertaken in an efficient way that does not take up too much room in our engine room. However we can still get easy access to all of the essential parts. Not that we have needed to, as we have had no issues.
The running and flushing process is fully automated, all we need to do is push a start and stop button from the galley. The water it produces is clean and tastes good and its production rate is far superior than other models in it’s price bracket. It has extended the time we can be out on the water by at least 3 fold.
